THE GOLDEN LILY by Richelle Mead

“Nothing he said could change what I think of you. I've had my mind made up about you for a long time... and it's all good.”

Sydney would love to go to college, but instead, she’s been sent into hiding at a posh boarding school in Palm Springs, California–tasked with protecting Moroi princess Jill Dragomir from assassins who want to throw the Moroi court into civil war. Formerly in disgrace, Sydney is now praised for her loyalty and obedience, and held up as the model of an exemplary Alchemist.

But the closer she grows to Jill, Eddie, and especially Adrian, the more she finds herself questioning her age–old Alchemist beliefs, her idea of family, and the sense of what it means to truly belong. Her world becomes even more complicated when magical experiments show Sydney may hold the key to prevent becoming Strigoi—the fiercest vampires, the ones who don’t die. But it’s her fear of being just that—special, magical, powerful—that scares her more than anything. Equally daunting is her new romance with Brayden, a cute, brainy guy who seems to be her match in every way. Yet, as perfect as he seems, Sydney finds herself being drawn to someone else—someone forbidden to her.

When a shocking secret threatens to tear the vampire world apart, Sydney’s loyalties are suddenly tested more than ever before. She wonders how she's supposed to strike a balance between the principles and dogmas she's been taught, and what her instincts are now telling her.

Should she trust the Alchemists—or her heart?

That was awesome!!!

The last part definitely made me feel that my blood still functions in my capillaries. Lol. It was hot in a Sydney-Adrian way. I was not expecting some raw hot uncontrollable desire to emanate from the two so I was immensely satisfied with just that tiny bit of passion from them. It was beyond my understanding how I was so thrilled by such a kiss when I always prefer something unstoppable. It was also amazing how I squel when Adrian touched Sydney. It was just so unusual that whenever it happens it sends me to cloud 9. Maybe that's the thing in the forbidden, it's very alluring, enticing, and exciting.

Honestly, this book is better than the first book. I guess it is because Mead was successful in portraying the world of her fantasy in her writings. She was able to hook the readers to her story despite some elements that this book lacked.

The thing that strikes me the most in this book is how well-written the plot is. It was as if reading something that seems so true. The details was just so precise and creative that the idea of vampires was somehow a possibility. It was one point good about Mead, she's good at visualizing her story in her words.

Yet the book lacked something. Something like the intensity of the emotions... The passion, hotness, etc were non-existent. The emotions of the story was sailing silently inside the boundaries of safety which sucks. There is only one scene that really blew me away... It was how the story ends. The other parts of the story? Well, let's just say it was interesting enough to keep on reading.

To be blunt, It was good but not great. So I am totally expecting something badass and formidable to happen in the next book.

I want excitement. I want something to tear me apart. I want something who will drew emotions from inside me and something that would make me feel like some crazy chick who won't be sane unless fed by something great.

I also crave for danger and more romance.
